Young Carers at Phoenix

Young Carers at Phoenix

There are a growing number of students known to the school as Young Carers. A Young Carer is someone under the age of 18 who is responsible for helping an adult in their family who has an illness (mental or physical) or disability that means they need a little extra help during the day to day life. This may mean anything from; taking the rubbish out due to not being able to manage the heavy lifting, reminding parent or family member to take pills and where pills are regularly to cooking dinner and looking after siblings.

At Phoenix we pride ourselves on being able to help all students ‘Aspire, Believe and Succeed’ and sometimes for Young Carers it can be hard to manage the workload of school and home life. The group is supported throughout school to ensure they get the most out of their learning. They are also supported by the school’s Pastoral team when I am not available.

If you feel your child is in a similar position to this and you would like talk to the Pastoral team further, please do not hesitate to contact the school on 0121 588 8384 or

The Young Carers group at Phoenix is in Partnership with Sandwell Young Carers. Click on the logo below to contact Ria Wiseman.
