Face Coverings in School

Dear parents/carers,

Re: Face coverings in school

On the news today, you may have heard the Prime Minister state that face masks are no longer compulsory in schools from tomorrow.

To be quite frank, I am concerned with this approach having completed 3 days of testing prior to students’ return to school less than a fortnight ago.

Last week we had over 60 positive cases of Covid identified amongst our students and staff, the largest number of cases in a single week to date throughout this pandemic.

I am also aware that one of our students is ill in hospital with the disease, I am sure you will join me in whishing them a speedy recovery.

Therefore, I am writing to you today to inform you that as a school, we will not be following this advice. Face masks will remain compulsory at Phoenix, to be worn at all times on site including in classrooms.

As ever, this decision has been made to protect the safety of our students, staff and local community which has been our key principle for decision making since the pandemic began.

I will of course review this decision weekly and base any changes on the picture we have at school and within the local community.

I thank you in anticipation for your support in this matter.

Yours faithfully,

Mike Smith
