We Will Remember Them

Phoenix come together to commemorate 100 years since the end of World War 1.

Interest was shown by students and staff to wear a poppy to commemorate 100 years of the end of WW1.  Therefore, the Textiles department created a template and began assembling and selling poppies to donate the proceeds to Mrs Offerdal's Poppy Appeal.  We are delighted to say that we raised £32.40 in total.  Not bad for just a few days work.  Thank you to the hard work of students and some LSAs.

To give help and support to Mrs Williams and Mrs Offerdal in creating a memorial on the roof garden on the top of A block, in support of marking the end of WW1 hostilities, the Textiles Department made a banner in support.  A big thank you to some of the year 7's for their help.

To commemorate 100 years since the end of the First World war students at Phoenix have been creating a huge poppy using 5 pence pieces for the centre of the poppy and coppers as the petals.

The work began several weeks ago with some of our navy cadets delivering assemblies to each of the different houses. They talked about armistice day and how this year was particularly special. They spent time in registration going around and collecting donations. These were then laid out in the shape of a poppy.

Through all their hard work the students have raised over £300 to be donated to The Royal British Legion. We would like to give our appreciation to all the students for their kind donations and to the cadets who spent many hours at lunchtime and after school counting money and laying it out. Please click here to find out more about our donations to The Royal British Legion.

A successful bid meant we were also able to acquire 3 'There but not There' silhouettes to attach to benches around school to remember the fallen soldiers. At present they are in our school reflection area.
